Caveats, Limitations and Other WarningsThe Gitlin
Law Firm, P.C., Woodstock, Illinois © 2009
Q:Why include all of the questions and answers in your web site? Isn't there a danger that the information could be used by the opposing party against your client in a case?A:These Q&As are designed as a public service. While these are drafted by lawyers who limit their practice to family law, they were not designed to give legal advice. It is impossible to provide general information that will apply to given factual situations. For this reason, there is nothing that can substitute for receiving the legal advice of a competent attorney. Q:How did you come up with the idea for the Q&As?A:While at Gitlin & Gitlin, my father and former partner had developed a number of Q&A reports published as advertisements from time to time in the newspaper. I found that these were well done. I urged him to include these Q&As in my former firm’s web site. To view these Q&As, go to the Gitlin & Kasper site at www.gitlin.com. When I went into practice with my own firm, I chose to create a comprehensive set of Q&As in divorce and paternity cases that is geared more to the strength of the internet, that is, that provides more links. Also, for certain topics, I was able to provide more information than would be available in a format designed for newspaper advertisements. Q:You say you designed the Q&A’s as a public service. What do you mean?A:A divorce can be one of the most difficult periods in a person’s life. The goal of The Gitlin Law Firm is to try to handle each case as quickly and economically as is possible. I find that cases settle generally within a relatively narrow range. Sometimes I believe that the cost of divorce is increased because people do not understand the emotional factors which come into play in divorce cases such as the cost often incurred in additional attorney’s fees by dating. Q:What about organizations such as “We the People” and other organizations which help people obtain a divorce cheaply and inexpensively?A:I believe that organizations such as “We the People” do a disservice to the public. There is an old adage which states, “the lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a lawyer.” This adage applies to parties going through a divorce. Except in this simplest divorce, my recommendation is that each party should be represented by the counsel of his or her choosing. The Gitlin Law Firm, P.C., provides the above information as a service to potential and current clients. A person's accessing the information contained in this web site, is not considered as retaining The Gitlin Law Firm for any case nor is it considered as providing legal advice. The Gitlin Law Firm cannot guarantee the outcome of any case. The Gitlin Law Firm's practice is generally limited to McHenry County, Lake County, Kane County and Boone County, Illinois.
